Maths Project Glenridge Primary
Since 2017 Boikanyo the Dion Herson Foundation has been assisting learners to attend (as well as stay in) school with numerous handouts: sanitary pads, shoes, socks, school uniform items and stationery. This assistance soon evolved into informal extra maths lessons.

In 2019 we began a collaboration with Singapore Maths SA . They devised a very successful program of building maths foundations that the children didn’t seem to have grasped. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division were the focus.
In 2020, over one hundred and fifty Grade 4 and 5 learners from Glenridge Primary School were enrolled onto this maths initiative. The learners scored an abysmal initial baseline maths average mark of 17%. The program commenced in February, and Covid-19 lockdown was announced in March. A year later, despite enormous challenges (staggered learning, no Wi-Fi at home and so many social issues), the average maths mark for both groups was a resounding 60%.
