Thirty young people from the rural villages surrounding Mtunzini in KwaZulu Natal entered an upskilling program which Boikanyo the Dion Herson Foundation sponsored in 2021. The program taught them how to farm vegetables and grow their own crops.

Rural young people have a life of limited opportunities,  mundanity and despair. A year later, the graduates that exited this programme not only had an in-depth understanding and experience in crop production but also a better awareness and appreciation of the environment.
