More Than Paws

The stress that residents who live in squatter communities live with daily is staggering. Poverty, hunger, violence, unemployment, inferior schooling, inadequate housing, lack of basic services, and inaccessible or inferior medical care add to the strain. In some homes the only love is that of a pet, and the sight of an elderly person or a child clutching a puppy prompted us to engage with an animal rescue NPO who come into the area to help residents. Together we educate that kindness to animals rebounds on humans.
